Cooperation develops small companies
Many small companies are innovative and driven but may not possess necessary resources. External cooperation may be needed for further development. A good example of this is Luma Metall, who cooperates closely with Swerim.
Luma Metall is a hi-tech company that manufactures ultra-thin tungsten and molybdenum wires with unique performance and quality. A finished wire measures 5-300 microns and is plated with gold, silver or nickel.
Member programme for business development
The company is small and does not always have access to the required resources, which means good cooperation is imperative. Luma Metall is part of Swerim's research programme and has gained valuable assistance through cooperation. Usually, members pay a fee and then collectively decide on what the funds will be used towards. Luma Metall, which often has very specific requests, has opted to abstain from the joint research programme and to use their membership fee solely for their own purposes.
Quality verification
One example of collaboration between Luma Metall and Swerim is a project to check the quality of the surface texture (roughness) of thin wires, which Luma Metall undertook for a world-leading customer. Another example involves corrosion testing of an end-product.
"Without help from Swerim, these tests would not have been possible and we now have a stronger market position. We have great trust in Swerim, their work and our dialogues with them are both outstanding," says Ulrik Palmqvist, Technical Manager at Luma Metall.
