Industiral trial at SSAB Oxelösund – week 5 in 2020
Industrial trials of using the newly developed bio-briquettes at SSAB Oxelösund.
We were running the industrial trials with two types of hydrochar in the blast furnace at SSAB Oxelösund. The hydrochars were derived from organic residues of paper sludge and green waste. In total, 418 ton hydrochar-briquettes were produced by SSAB MEROX. About 220 ton hydrochar-briquettes made of paper sludge was top-charged into the blast furnace. With the experiences and lessons-learned from the industrial trials, we will develop an approach to maximize the value chain of various resides generated from different sectors, thus contribute to achieving a fossil-free society.
Industrial trial at Volvo Skövde – week 21 in 2019
Industrial trial of hydrochar injection at Volvo Skövde.
Together with Volvo, we performed hydrochar injection trials to the copular furnace (CF) No.1 at Volvo GTO, Skövde. These trials provide us the firsthand experiences on the hydrochar injection via tuyere in CF. Based on this, a complex injection system can be designed in order to perform a long-term industrial trial in a near future to reduce the foundry coke consumption, thereby, mitigating the fossil CO2 emissions for the foundry industry.
Pilot trials at Swerim
First trial – week 38 in 2018
Pilot tests of using secondary lime-containing materials in EAF-AOD processes. We produced lime-briquettes by the roller press . The maintenance work and delivery of the required materials was also going well.
Second trial – week 40 in 2019
Two days’ pilot trials were carried out in Swerim’s test bed of AC EAF furnace at Luleå on 30th September and 1st October. A few types of secondary lime material were tested with the purpose of replacing primary lime used in the steel industrial sectors. By means of the industrial symbiosis, it could maximize the value chain of residues from different sectors for metallurgical and other applications, thus contributing on climate change mitigation, minimizing residues to landfill and save the natural resources.
