Swerim söker nyttan i slagg

Pelle Mellin is project manager for a prestudy that will begin this spring. The aim is to find means of recovering valuable metals from metallised slag. He explains that the collective know-how of the project participants will make it possible to identify potential processes for metallising slag using hydrogen, either together with minor amounts of carbon, or no carbon at all. In this particular project, the intention is to recover chromium, iron, vanadium and possibly other metals from slag.

Swerim is leading the project, a collaboration with Chalmers and alloy and steel industry partners Vargön Alloys and Uddeholm.

The study, under the acronym HAGGIS, is being conducted and funded within the strategic innovation programme Swedish Mining Innovation with the participation of Vinova, Formas and the Swedish Energy Agency. Results from the prestudy will be presented in the last quarter of this year.
