ESTEP sub of SSSA is one of the European Technology Platform (ETP), following the chart defined by the European Commission for 2020 ETPs, and is since 2018 legally established as an international non-profit organization. ESTEP brings together all the major stakeholders in the European steel industry.
Its membership includes major steel manufacturers; universities and research institutions active in steel research; major users of steel; and public bodies such as the European Commission and national governments. Its mission is to engage stakeholders in collaborative actions and projects on technology and innovation, tackling EU-wide steel innovation challenges to create a sustainable European steel industry. These challenges include digitization, fostering a low-carbon future for industry, the circular economy, and resource and energy efficiency.
ESTEP supports the implementation of the Clean Steel Partnership (CSP) by regularly updating its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and by contributing to the definition of objectives and targets for research to foster the decarbonization of the steel production cycles.
