RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (CSM), part of the RINA Group, is an internationally recognized entity providing comprehensive services across energy, marine, certification, transport, infrastructure, and industry sectors. With over 5,300 employees, and 200 offices worldwide, RINA is a member of key international organizations and an important contributor to the development of new legislative standards. Within the Industry Business Unity, RINA Consulting - Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A (CSM) is in the group the entity mainly devoted to Research, Development and Innovation. CSM employs more than 250 talented researchers who can make advantage of 20 laboratories, pilot lines platform (about 10000 mq of demonstrator plant) and full-scale testing facilities.
CSM activities are mainly related to development of new materials, performance assessment of materials and components in new application framework, development and optimization of innovative processes, also through digitalization and application of Artificial Intelligence, development of pilot plants, including the design and development of special testing equipment. CSM is part of different associations and memberships in Europe, as Clean Steel Partnership (CSP), Processes4Planet Partnership (P4P) and Research Initiative for European Steelmaking (RIES).
The traditional presence of CSM as the Italian reference pole in European research results in hundreds of international collaboration agreements and contracts, with currently active around 70 projects (HORIZON, RFCS and EDF). With particular relevance for SymbioSteel, CSM is involved in H2020 CORALIS project on Industral Symbiosis and it has expertise in RFCS Accompanying Measure instruments, participating to REUSteel and GREENSTEEL among others.
