CRM Group is an independent non-profit organisation that provides technological R&D innovation in the fields of metal and steel production processes, product development and a wide range of metal applications, using a truly holistic process-product-application approach and focusing on industrial implementation of its developments. To fulfil its mission, CRM is organised around 6 research units, among which Metal Production and Recycling (MPR) is dedicated to raw material processing, carbon neutral iron & steel making, melting & refining, by-products treatment and valorisation.
Main role in project
- Development of process for treatment of low-zinc iron & steelmaking residues (dust & sludge) from BF, BOF & EAF focused on pyrometallurgical treatment, cold agglomeration treatment of input /output materials, characterization & analysis
- Monitoring (on-line) of secondary generated dust fractions for particle size distribution possibly indicating zinc content, which also can be used for evaluation of reaction kinetics regarding evaporation of zinc
- Data gathering for up-scaling assessment from technical, economic, and environmental point of view
