RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (RINA-CSM) is a fully private innovation center with
extensive experiences for the development and application of innovative processes and materials. RINA-CSM was founded in 1963 by Italy's major steel manufacturers and end-users to develop steel technologies and applications. Today RINA-CSM is part of RINA, a global provider of classification, certification, testing, inspection and training services for major industries. RINA-CSM research activities are mainly related to modelling and design of materials and products, optimization and development of processes, innovative pilot plants and reduction of environmental impact. With a staff of about 250 researchers, RINA-CSM ranks amongst Europe’s top Materials Research Centers. RINA-CSM participant also in the European Technological Platforms like ESTEP (steel) and EuMat (advanced materials) and also co-founder of RIES (Research Initiative European Steel) for the coordination among the main Iron&steel research centres in Europe. Currently RINA-CSM has more than 80 active Grant Agreements with the European Commission.
Role in project
- In ZincVal Project, RINA CSM is actively involved in WP2, focusing on the collection and characterization of dust and sludge, and selected methods applied for monitoring of the variation of dust/sludge properties and amounts over time applied.
- In WP3 RINA CSM is involved in task T 3.2, the objective of task 3.2 is to design a Hydro-cyclone pilot prototype, using CFD simulation followed by construction and experimental testing with BF and BOF dust and sludges to collect and separate fraction higher in zinc concentration, and is involved also in a workshop organization with the objective of the presentation (design, operation and the theory) and demonstration of high-efficient cyclone.
- Moreover, in WP3 RINA CSM together with Ori Martin will design recipes and methods for producing agglomerates of EAF dust for recycling back into the EAF to reach zinc contents above the threshold set by zinc smelters.
- In WP4, RINA CSM will evaluate the residues and effluents from all treatment routes and compare to the current practice with landfill.
