Kvasir Technologies is a Danish deep tech company developing a novel direct biomass liquefaction process for the decarbonization of the maritime sector.
Unlike conventional biofuel technologies, Kvasir's approach achieves high liquefaction yields across a broad range of lignocellulosic feedstocks, including those traditionally difficult to process. This feedstock flexibility is a core competitive advantage, enabling production from widely available agricultural and forestry residues.
The resulting bio-oil can be used directly as a drop-in marine fuel, or further upgraded through standard refinery hydrotreating to meet more demanding fuel specifications. This dual-use pathway lowers the barrier to adoption across different vessel types and operational contexts.
The Kvasir process delivers a carbon-rich, bitumen-like sidestream with some anti-fungal effect. The HåBiMet project aims to validate whether this sidestream can be utilised as a binder for biochar briquetting.
