100 citations for our publication!
Our research paper, “Recovery of Co, Ni, Mn, and Li from Li-ion Batteries by Smelting Reduction – Part I: A Laboratory-Scale Study,” has now surpassed 100 citations on Google Scholar! Its follow-up, “Part II: A Pilot-Scale Demonstration,” is also gaining strong traction with 87 citations and counting.

These two studies present the development of a pyrometallurgical recycling process for lithium-ion batteries. At both lab and pilot scale, we demonstrate efficient recovery of Co, Ni, and Mn in a metal alloy and Li in the flue dust. Published in Journal of Power Sources, the citation milestones highlight the growing global relevance of this work in the battery recycling field.
This research was conducted at Swerim AB by Xianfeng Hu, Elsayed Mousa, and Guozhu Ye within the ReLion project, funded by Energimyndigheten (the Swedish Energy Agency).
Battery recycling is one of the rapidly growing research areas at Swerim, where we continue to contribute to the development of circular, resource-efficient, and low-carbon technologies.
