Jill Sundberg – New Group Manager for Environment and Energy
She’s the Norrbotten native who longed to return home to her family and real winters, and eventually made her way back to Luleå after years of studying and working in Uppsala, Stockholm, and Södertälje. Jill Sundberg is Swerim’s new group manager for Environment and Energy.
Jill officially took on the role of group manager on June 1st but got a head start the week before by beginning to get acquainted with the team—relationships she hopes to develop further.
“Creating a good group dynamic that drives the work forward has always been one of the most enjoyable parts of the job, even though it's a new challenge to do so with managerial responsibility. I already know some of my colleagues from my previous role as a researcher at Swerim, but now it’s about gaining a deeper understanding of everyone’s strengths and professional interests. Swerim’s product is our expertise!”
It was clear from an early stage that Jill Sundberg, born in Luleå, would pursue a career in natural sciences. But even though Luleå University of Technology was close by, she was eager to broaden her horizons and went on to study and earn a PhD in materials chemistry at Uppsala University. After a year as a researcher at what was then Swerea KIMAB in Kista from 2015 to 2016, she moved on to Scania.
“I enjoyed working in the industry, but as my family grew, so did the longing to move back north. My relatives are here, and so are the real winters we all appreciate. A research position at Swerim felt just right, where I can combine my industry experience with research,” says Jill, who started working at Swerim in January 2023. And as of June 1st, she steps into her new role as group manager for Environment and Energy.
“It feels exciting to take this step and gain new perspectives. I’m looking forward to seeing the bigger picture and working with Swerim’s direction and strategy. As a researcher, the work is often independent and individual. Now I look forward to gaining insight into many projects. Even if I can’t work on everything myself, at least I get to be involved!”
