New Research Consortium – Hydrogen and New Fuels
Swerim is initiating a new research consortium on hydrogen and new fuels, building on the strong interest generated through the Swerim Arena for hydrogen in process and materials, Corrosion Forum and recent hydrogen activities. The aim is to advance knowledge on material performance and hydrogen–metals interactions, supporting the safe and efficient use of hydrogen, ammonia, and other fossil-free fuels across industrial applications and fossil-free transport.
The consortium will bring together partners from the steel, process and automotive industries and other stakeholders to address key challenges such as hydrogen embrittlement, high-temperature corrosion, and materials compatibility during the transition to new energy carriers. It will also serve as a platform for developing joint national and European research projects.
During autumn 2026, we will confirm partner interest and define the final scope and structure, with a planned start in 2027.
