Chuan Wang and Elsayed Mousa, Swerim

Two Swerim Researchers Among the World’s Top-Ranked Scientists

Dr. Elsayed Mousa and Dr. Chuan Wang, senior researchers in the Metallurgy business area at the metals research institute Swerim, have been included in this year’s prestigious list of the world’s top 2% scientists. The list is compiled by Elsevier in collaboration with Stanford University.

At Swerim, Elsayed Mousa and Chuan Wang lead innovative research and development projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving resource efficiency in steel and ferroalloy production.

Through close collaboration with industrial partners and academia, both researchers address key challenges in sustainable metal production, helping to pave the way towards a greener future. In recent years, both have served as principal investigators for numerous research projects and played key roles in projects funded by the European Union, as well as regional and national funding agencies.

“It was a pleasant surprise! I am very pleased that my research work has received this recognition, and I am grateful to the many excellent colleagues and collaborators I have worked with over the years. I have always believed that good research should not only advance scientific knowledge through publications, but also make a real difference in the world,” says Chuan Wang. “Seeing our research help solve industrial challenges, make better use of resources, and contribute to a more sustainable future is what keeps me motivated.”

“Being listed among the world's top 2% most-cited scientists for seven consecutive years since 2020 is a great honor and a reminder of the importance of collaborative research in creating a more sustainable future.”, says Elsayed Mousa

Short facts

Elsayed Mousa is internationally recognised as a leading expert in ironmaking and metallurgical processes. His expertise covers iron ore reduction, agglomeration, and recycling – fields in which he has made significant research contributions. (Elsayed has been listed for seven consecutive years, from 2020 to 2026)

Chuan Wang specialises in metallurgical process development, ironmaking process simulation, and the optimisation of integrated steelmaking processes. His recent research has focused on the valorisation of residual materials from the mining and metals industries, with the aim of advancing more sustainable processes. (Chuan has been listed for five years: 2020–2022, 2024 and 2026.)
